As societies continue to evolve, freedom in the currents of our time involves navigating complex technological, social, and global changes. It encompasses not only traditional notions of individual liberty but also considerations of justice, equality, privacy, and environmental sustainability.
With the concept of freedom, through a global lens, we see the inequality across nations cross-borders. The piece exploration broadens to encompass nuanced interpretations of freedom, non-violence, and surrender within societies grappling with reservations about individuality. The choreography being created together by Birke van Maartens and Sarah Al Faouri, the performance incorporates sound production and songwriting by Gabriel Vitel, alongside videography and light design. Each element contributes to a multifaceted narrative exploring the complexities of societal norms and individual expression. The title, distinct from the colloquial "WHITE FLAG – Sorry, not sorry," plays in a radical way with the gravity and scholarly rigor inherent in the choreographic discourse.
